Serotonin is one of the most well-known neurotransmitters in the world and is the target of the drug Prozac, perhaps infamous anti-depressant drug in the class known as SSRIs (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors).
Yet how much do you really know about serotonin? It seems that most of us don’t know the half of it! There’s a lot to be learned about serotonin, the signalling agent.
Most serotonin is found outside the central nervous system, and virtually all of the 15 serotonin receptors are expressed outside as well as within the brain.
In this insightful webinar, Antony describes the multiple functions that serotonin has, as well as described how best to support optimal levels.
Antony will explain how serotonin regulates numerous biological processes including cardiovascular function, bowel motility and colonic tone, and bladder control. Additionally, he will discuss the role that serotonin plays in haematology, cognitive function, appetite, sleep, pain, pleasure, lung function, heart rhythm, vasodilation, and vasoconstriction. Serotonin has yet further roles to play within the digestive system since it regulates pancreatic secretions and is also involved in blood sugar regulation.
It’s high time we all understood a little more about serotonin and what nutritional interventions make a positive difference to our levels of this integral neurotransmitter.
